El
asunto de la entrega del aeropuerto Luis Muñoz Marín a una firma mejicana tiene
tres tipos de implicaciones negativas para el pueblo de Puerto Rico como
sociedad, como País. Constituye un
problema político-administrativo, que trata del cumplimiento de los contratos
hechos con el pueblo, de defender el dominio público, administrarlo
eficientemente y proteger la identificación de ese pueblo con los logros históricos
que conforman su conciencia de pueblo y su fe democrática.
Como
problema económico, Alejandro entrega el aeropuerto a intereses foráneos que sólo
buscan lucro, con la excusa de que necesita dinero --- todos necesitamos
dinero, menos los millonarios que saquean el poco que tenemos --- y se rehúsa a
meterle el hombro a la crisis, por lo que adopta la solución de Fortuño: desmantelar el gobierno, y el pueblo a… a buen sitio. Declararse vencido ante la primera
oferta luminosa de dinero no parece ser lo que el pueblo entendió que estaba
votando. Esa es la dimensión política,
especialmente cuando se le miente sobre la naturaleza del contrato. Eso no era lo que esperábamos.
La
entrega del Aeropuerto Luis Muñoz Marín a unos especuladores foráneos ---
aconsejados y defendidos por cabilderos locales del PPD --- constituye un
desfalco espiritual.
Ese
aeropuerto es nuestra cara al mundo, y una estructura de lanzamiento de
desarrollo de media docena de aeropuertos secundarios que pueden ser pivotes de
desarrollo económico. La venta del
Aeropuerto Luis Muñoz Marin constituye una traición espiritual a su
memoria. Es como el abandono por
Jorge Santini del Parque Luis Muñoz Marín. ¿Hay método en esa doble locura?
Alejandro
García Padilla reclamó durante la campaña que seguía los pasos de Luis Muñoz
Marín al irse directo a “la gente”.
¿A qué? A saludar, apretar,
besar, sonreír, pero ciertamente no a escuchar. Si hubiese escuchado no estaría contradiciendo con la acción
lo que prometió con las palabras, cuando les dijo que sí a todo el mundo sin
sopesar la angustia verdadera del pueblo.
Por eso ahora no compaginan sus acciones con sus promesas. En 1938-1940 Muñoz fue al pueblo a
escuchar. De allí sacó su programa
en adelante.
No se
trata meramente de acciones: se
trata del fortuñismo galopante que sus explicaciones comportan: Aeropuerto, Salud, Seguridad. Y de Educación no hablemos, porque
parece que no hay manera de saber.
Algún día se nos explicará.
En 1980
acuñé y ofrecí al PPD, que lo usó extensamente, un afiche sencillo, que decía
“BREGA SIN ENTREGA”. Su mensaje es
más válido hoy que en 1980. Porque
en tan sólo un mes, Alejandro ha virado al revés ese mensaje y esa actitud
política y moral --- ¡tenemos ya, en un mes, “ENTREGA SIN BREGA”!

ResponderEliminarI am telling you. If you want Puerto Rican statehood you do not associate yourself with people who have dedicated their lives to tax exemption.
So what we saw was another example of the hypocrisy of Fortuno’s statehood stance. There is really no interest in statehood in a party that removed from its banner the words progreso, seguridad estadidad. Which means that the real objective of the party is to win the elections to just get a hold of the budget for their own purposes.
Fortuno, as always, gives a lame defense of statehood saying that the poor soul that he is could not vote when the other congressmen went to vote leaving him alone on a chair crying.
Of course, Wilma could have told me that and I could have saved the Metro fare.
The other two presenters, Richard Land, President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commisision of the Southern Baptist Convention and and Niger Innis a National Spokesman for the Congress of Racial Equality, did seem to believe in the issue as they saw it as a civil rights issue stemming from the infamous decision of Plessy vs Ferguson. A segregationist court took the case of Puerto Rico and adopted the same principle of separate but equal to Puerto Rico.
But the 100 families do not give a damn about Ferguson vs. Plessy. On the contrary, They want to be treated differently because they do not want to pay any federal taxes. So the consequence is that the standards of living of the whole population stagnate while they enjoy their privileges of slave masters.
As for Hernan Padilla, what did he say? That Puerto Ricans suffer from geographical discrimination and that that does not make sense, because he can vote in Florida, but not in Puerto Rico.
Clearly the intent of Grover Norquist is to appear as doing something for the Hispanics now that the Republicans got a beating in the elections for gaining the reputation of being the anti Hispanic party. But it is just window dressing and you could tell. There is not the slightest interest in making the 100 families pay federal income taxes.
The others wanted to make the case of Puerto Rico a case of civil rights. But it is not Congress who is opposing that Puerto Ricans pay federal taxes. As unfair as the present relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States is, Puerto Rico is not a state because Congress opposes statehood, but because THE 100 FAMILIES DO ALL AGREE IN NOT PAYING FEDERAL TAXES . And in light of that situation, the US congress will never impose statehood to Puerto Rico.
Fortuno is clearly not the leader of the statehood movement and he certainly is not the leader of the Puerto Ricans.
All he will do from now is to continue to derail the efforts of the statehooders under the guise of a former leader of the so called pro-statehood party.
Now he appears in the company of Grover Norquist.
